The Buffalo Bills have found a safety to play next to Cole Bishop.
The Bills agreed to terms with safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson on a one-year, $6 million contract, a league source told GNN Sports. The 28-year-old has played games for five teams in seven seasons, winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 and appearing in another in 2022.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound safety was a fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2019, playing there for three seasons. He was traded to the Eagles in 2022 for a fifth- and sixth-round pick.
Gardner-Johnson signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract with the Detroit Lions in 2023, returning to the Eagles on a three-year, $27 million deal in 2024. After one season, the Eagles traded him to the Houston Texans for a fifth-round pick.
The Texans released Gardner-Johnson after three games last season. He signed to the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad and was released a week later. He signed with the Bears and played 10 games, starting seven, and made 51 tackles and two interceptions.
He has started 71 of 87 games during his career, making 20 interceptions, including six apiece in 2022 and 2024. Gardner-Johnson also has 27 tackles for a loss and seven sacks.
