LAWRENCE – A dominating performance on both sides of the ball over the final two quarters erased a 13-point deficit and lifted the Central Catholic High football team to a thrilling 20-19 come from behind win over Bishop Hendricken, the defending Rhode Island state champions, during a non-league game played Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Junior quarterback Caden Smith, who was held to negative three rushing yards in the first half, erupted in the second half rushing for 136 yards, including a 13-yard TD run.
In addition to that, he also tossed his second TD pass of the game to Drew O’Keefe from four yards out for the winning score coming with 5:54 remaining in the game.
The Raiders’ defense held the Hawks to negative 19 yards the rest of the way, which included a pair of QB sacks by junior linebacker Amari Mills, before Anthony Garcia iced the game with an interception coming with under a minute to play.
The Eagle-Tribune will have much more on this thrilling win in Monday’s print edition.
