Beverly native Jeff Kampersal, legendary head coach of the Penn State women’s hockey team, has his Nittany Lions in the Frozen Four for the first time in program history.
Penn State (33-5-0), the No. 3 ranked team in the nation, will face No. 2 Wisconsin (33-4-2) in the second of two semifinals Friday (7:30 p.m.) at the Nittany Lions’ home rink, Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Penn. Top ranked Ohio State (34-4) will take on No. 5 Northeastern (29-8-1) in the first semifinal Friday, starting at 4 p.m. The two winners will face off Sunday at 4 p.m. for the NCAA title.
Kampersal, a St. John’s Prep graduate (Class of 1988), won his 500th career game this past January as a women’s college hockey head coach. He has spent the last nine seasons at Penn State (having spent the previous 21 season at his alma mater, Princeton) and has won a total of 510 games. This winter, he has led the Nittany Lions to the most wins in program history.
