Beverly High senior captain Logan Bowen, who led all North Shore boys hockey players with 22 goals and 42 total points during the regular season, has been chosen by the league coaches as the Northeastern Conference’s Most Valuable Player.
Bowen, who will take 123 career points (63 goals, 60 assists) into this week’s Division 2 state playoffs when the Panthers play at Whitman-Hanson in a first round game, has recorded three hat tricks this season, including one 4-goal game. He has also produced three game-winning goals for the Panthers and averaged a goal per game in 12 NEC contests.
Seven players — three seniors, two juniors and two sophomores — representing six of the NEC’s seven clubs were selected as All-Northeastern Conference players.
Mikey O’Leary, another senior captain for Beverly who has a team-leading 21 assists to go along with 10 goals, was picked for the squad. So were a pair of Danvers’ best players: senior forward Cooper Dunham, who has produced 21 goals to go along with 16 assists for 37 points; and captain Drew Godfried, one of the area’s highest scoring defenseman with three goals, 17 assists and 20 points.
Sophomore Teddy Dulac of Marblehead, who placed the young Headers this winter in goals (11) and total points (17), was another All-Conference choice. So was fellow sophomore John Morello of the combined Peabody/Saugus/Swampscott squad; the skilled centerman was tied for the team lead in goals (11) while finishing atop the Tanners’ leaderboard in assists (16) and total points (27).
Two juniors were also named All-NEC: goaltender Trey Marrone of league champion Gloucester after a regular season in which he won 14 games, had a goals against average of 2.02 and a pair of shutouts; and Winthrop forward Joe Pumphret.
Gloucester’s Derek Geary was selected as the Northeastern Conference Coach of the Year. His Fishermen went 14-5-1 in the regular season, were victorious in their final seven games, and won the conference crown with a 9-3 mark.
