Beverly High senior captains Charlie Bossler and Jason Provost were named the co-Boys Runners of the Year in the Northeastern Conference while Marblehead superstar Marrietta O’Connell earned Girls Runner of the Year accolades as the league handed out its annual honors and awards.
Bossler won the NEC cross country championship at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester last month in a time of 15:48, which was three seconds better than Provost, who took second place.
Chosen as the NEC’s Female Runner of the Year for the third consecutive cross country season, O’Connell captured her third straight league title at Stage Fort in a time of 18:37.
The top eight finishers at the NEC championship race were also named All-Northeastern Conference. Along with Bossler and Provost, they included Peabody senior Mohamed Lhassounai (who finished in 16:22); Masconomet juniors Zander Hamlin (16:25) and Conall Strangman (16:38); the Swampscott duo of sophomore Atticus Jakious (16:27) and senior Simon Brown (16:35); and Marblehead senior Will Cruikshank (16:44).
The girls All-Northeastern Conference team was led by O’Connell and also included Swampscott sophomore Annabella Averett, who finished second at the NEC championships in 18:38; Danvers junior Grace Conklin (19:10); Peabody sophomores Lauren Foley (19:01) and Ella Braz (20:01); Marblehead junior Sarah Munroe (19:11); Masconomet senior Madison Gibeau-Schmitt (19:24); and Beverly sophomore Grace Corbett (19:40).
In addition, 16 more runners (8 boys, 8 girls) were picked as Northeastern Conference all-stars. They were:
BOYS: Senior Henrik Adams and junior Filip Grubor of Marblehead; junior Anthony Colella and freshman Lincoln Geaney of Swampscott; and juniors Jackson Guerriero and Matthew McCusker, senior Osama Mishal and freshman Aiden Trainor, all of Peabody.
GIRLS: Junior Clara Alberta and freshman Abigail Williams of Masconomet; sophomores Ruby Assa and Norah Walsh of Marblehead; sophomore Madyson Danish and Addison Lamar of Danvers; and freshman Lily Murphy and Maya Sutton of Peabody.
Fernando Braz, who guided the Peabody High boys to both the NEC Dunn Division title and the NEC championship crown, was chosen as the league’s Boys Coach of the Year. Marblehead’s Will Herlihy earned the same honor on the girls’ side after his Magicians captured both the NEC Dunn regular season accolades and won the team championship meet.
Masconomet’s boys and Swampscott’s girls each were honored with NEC Team Sportsmanship Awards.
