NEWBURYPORT — “Beauty in Crisis,” an exhibition of large paintings and sculptures by Jeffrey Briggs will open to the public on Saturday, April 18, in Custom House Maritime Museum’s Community Gallery.
A highlight is a presentation of crafted medals visualizes environmental loss and the possible futures of human habitation. They depict a symbolic figure within an enclosed environment—the circular forms represent both physical and atmospheric boundaries. While humans are adaptable, Briggs’ artwork underscores our fundamental dependence on Earth’s ecological and natural resources and the fragile balance required to sustain life, according to museum officials.
The show runs through May 31. The museum is located at 25 Water St., Newburyport.
