TRAVERSE CITY — Water around Sunset Park exceeded health department standards for E. coli, according to sampling results announced by the Grand Traverse County Health Department Friday.
Sunset Park is under a Level 3 Advisory, recommending no body contact through the weekend.
East Bay Park water quality has returned to acceptable limits.
Water samples were taken June 17, and beaches were resampled June 18, according to the health department.
The statement noted that “E. coli levels are more likely to increase following periods of heavy rain and high winds” and that all other tested Grand Traverse County beaches met Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy standards and remain at Level 1, supporting full-body contact.
