The plan appeared to be a rather simple one for the Amesbury boys basketball team on Friday night.
Get the ball into the post.
The Redhawks routinely fed bigs Christian McGarry and Robbie Dalton down low, who helped to lead the team to a nice win over Ipswich, 61-51. Both standouts for the football team this fall, McGarry paced the scoring with 14 points, while Dalton wasn’t too far behind with 10.
And Amesbury’s young guard duo continues to impress.
Still only sophomores, Justin Dube and Parker DeLong each hit a 3 and added 10 points as well. The two entered the weekend as the team’s top scorers with pretty similar stats, as Dube averages 12.7 ppg and DeLong averages 9.0 ppg while both have hit 16 3s.
Amesbury (4-8) will try to make it two in a row when it travels to play Essex Tech on Monday.
CROWE, PENTUCKET GIRLS DOUBLE-UP LYNNFIELD
If you’re a program with the success and the pedigree of the Pentucket girls, it’s generally a good sign when everyone on the roster gets some playing time.
It’s a pretty surefire sign of a blowout.
Which was again the case on Friday night, as the Panthers cruised to a doubling-up of visiting Lynnfield, 60-30. Sophomore Amelia Crowe continued her fantastic season, leading the way with 20 points to surpass her season average of 12.7 ppg. Gabby Bellacqua added 15 points on a pair of 3s, Ava Diburro hit three 3s and finished with 13 points, and both Sofia Bellacqua and Allie Gagnon added 5 points.
Pentucket (11-1) came in at No. 6 in the latest Division 3 ranking.
The Panthers will host Manchester-Essex on Monday before traveling to play Essex Tech on Thursday.
ROYALS CONTINUE TO LEAN ON LASQUADE
Jackson Lasquade simply does it all for the Georgetown boys basketball team.
The senior tri-captain is in the middle of an excellent year, leading the Daily News area in scoring at 14.7 ppg, and put together another strong performance Friday night. Lasquade was everywhere with 15 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Royals to a close win over Rockport, 57-54.
After a setback against a talented Newburyport team the last time out, the result was a nice bounceback victory for Georgetown (9-4) — who came in ranked No. 17 in the latest MIAA Division 4 poll.
Brady Kent hit three 3s and finished with 10 points, Jomar Terrero also added 10 points and Brayan Perez drained a pair of 3s and had 6. The Royals have a big game on Monday when they travel to play Lynnfield, and will then host Amesbury on Thursday to wrap up the week.
ATHERTON, CLIPPERS KEEP ON DOMINATING
It’s becoming pretty ho-hum for the Newburyport boys.
Another Friday night, another dominating victory.
This time it came on the road at Essex Tech, and the Clippers had no issues rolling to a 70-27 victory. It was a pretty balanced scoring night with plenty of playing time all around, but leading the way for the Clippers (11-2) was sophomore Cal Atherton with 18 points. Silas Brennan poured in a season-high with 8 points, and the trio of Zayd Leanna, Finn Brennan and Carson Gretz each added 7.
Interestingly, Gretz hit the team’s only 3 on the night.
Newburyport, which is up to No. 11 in Division 3, will look to keep its perfect CAL record in tact when it hosts Hamilton-Wenham on Monday.
