The Cooperstown All Star Village has applied to build an additional three-story bunkhouse and a press box for broadcast media.
Village baseball administrator Hunter Grace submitted a site plan application to the town of Oneonta Planning Board, which was discussed Monday, Sept. 16.
“The bunkhouse addition is so that the All Star Village can house more players and coaches than what they usually have each summer,” Oneonta Town Code Enforcement Officer Paul Neske said Thursday, Sept. 20. “It’s part of business expansion.”
According to the Village’s application, the new bunkhouse would provide an additional 12 living quarters to hold 20 people each, or up to 240 additional people, in the three-story structure.
The current bunkhouses come equipped with 52” cable TVs, air conditioning and breakfast coffee for coaches. Other park amenities include a players-only pool shaped like a baseball glove and an on-site field dedicated to wiffle ball tournaments, according to the Village website.
The plan includes adding a press box at Championship Field, which would be an 8-foot by 20-foot structure to house broadcast and other media.
“Next steps are for the All Star Village to come back with answers to the questions posed from the Planning Board meeting,” Neske said. “Once the answers are delivered, it goes through departments of Environmental Conservation, Transportation, Health and then permitting.”
“The process for requests could be two to six months,” he added. “The site application could be on the agenda for the next planning board meeting Monday, Oct. 7, depending on when we get the answers from All Star Village.”
Cooperstown All Star Village is located on state Route 23 and 205. It is a family resort intended for baseball players 12-years-old and younger. Teams from across the country come to compete in a seven-game tournament each summer usually scheduled from late May to late August.
There is no current construction schedule for the expansion.
Minutes for Monday’s Planning Board meeting regarding the Village’s application were not available.
