The Niagara Falls Wolverines needed to step up or their season would come to an end well before they wanted it to.
Niagara Falls did what they had to in a 13-2 win over Lancaster, Thursday, at Lancaster High School.
The Falls did not wait very long to get the scoring going, when the game’s lead-off hitter Anthony Littere hit a ball out to center field on the fourth pitch of the game. The Wolverines weren’t done there in the frame, adding another run to go up 2-0. The second inning was the biggest inning of the day for the Wolverines, who scored five to go up 7-2.
Niagara Falls added another six runs on its way to the 11-run win.
The Wolverines had the long ball flying in this one with Anthony Littere hitting three home runs for the first time in the senior’s high school career. Littere was joined in the home run club by Andrew and Matthew Brydges. Littere was not only impactful at the dish, he also got the ball and pitched a complete game, giving up zero earned runs on five hits while striking out 12 and walking three hitters.
The Falls return to the field at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Grand Island High School for game three of the Section VI Class AAA championship series.

Medina 8 Southwestern 0
Medina was held to six hits in its Section VI Class B semifinal game against Southwestern but that is all it needed.
The Mustangs did not need more than that to get an 8-0 win over Southwestern, Thursday, at Medina High School.
The scoring did not start until the third inning when Medina’s Aidan Papaj scored on an RBI groundout but once the scoring started, it did not stop. Another RBI groundout started the scoring in the fourth inning before Papaj came up with another big hit, this time a single to score a run and make it 3-0. Later in the frame, the junior would push his team’s lead out to 4-0 with a steal of home.
Papaj finished the day going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. He was joined in the multi-hit column by Vinny Gray, who also went 2-for-4.
The Mustangs are at 4 p.m. on Saturday, when they take on JFK in the Section VI Class B title game.
JFK 7 Roy-Hart 2
The dreams of an upset victory for No. 5 Royalton-Hartland were very much alive through the first five and a half innings. The team had a 2-1 lead and were looking like they were going to be facing Medina in the sectional final.
It helps the cause when you are holding the No. 1 team in the tournament to two hits for the entire game. But the chances of a victory are hurt when a team commits four errors. That is what happened and ultimately cost Roy-Hart in a 7-2 loss to JFK, Thursday, at JFK High School.
At the plate, Roy-Hart was led by H. Snyder who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Snyder was joined in the hit parade by E. Poeller and I. Smith both of whom had one hit. On the mound, Roy-Hart used three pitchers, G. Heideman, J. Hy and I. Smith.
Heideman started the game going four innings of no-hit ball while giving up one unearned run, walking four hitters and striking out seven. He was relieved by Hy who went 1 2/3 innings, giving up six unearned runs on one hit while walking three and striking out one. Smith went 1/3 of an inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.
The loss means Roy-Hart ends the season with a 14-4 overall record.
