OLDTOWN — Barbara G. Buehl, the former executive director of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce and director of Allegany County Tourism, died Sunday. She was 78.
Most recently the community liaison for DelFest and the DelFest Foundation, Buehl became an integral part of the Del McCoury family’s work in their adopted Western Maryland home.
Buehl was born in Cleveland and retired from AT&T in 1997 after a roughly 30-year marketing career. She later bought land near Oldtown where she built a farm — for alpacas, horses, goats, ducks, dogs and cats — to share with friends and visitors.
Her 25-year, post-retirement work helped lay the foundation for Mountain Maryland as a mid-Atlantic destination.
