The annual BankGloucester boys basketball Holiday Jamboree will make its return to Gloucester High next week, but there will be slight change of plans in this year’s edition.
The tournament, which typically includes four teams, will consist of just three programs this winter: Danvers, Salem Academy and host Gloucester.
As it stands, the Fishermen — who have started the season at 1-1 — will take on the Falcons on Monday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. to kick things off. Then on Tuesday, it will be Danvers vs. Salem Academy at 6 p.m., before Gloucester hosts Salem Academy in a finale on Wednesday at 12:30. In addition, the Salem Academy and Gloucester JV teams will compete at 11 a.m. before the final varsity game.
As is tradition, each varsity player and coach will receive a holiday tournament T-shirt. Each of the three participating teams will also pick one player to represent their squad as an All-Jamboree player to receive a plaque presented after their second game.
All teams will be provided locker room space for pregame, halftime and postgame if they require.
Other rules and regulations are as follows:
– If one of the three teams finishes with a 2-0 record they will be awarded a 2025 BankGloucester Holiday Jamboree Champions plaque. The winning team will also be honored with a Most Outstanding Player Award in that scenario.
– If no team finishes 2-0 there will not be a Champions plaque awarded or a Most Outstanding Player Award.
Last season, Gloucester defended home court to hoist the tournament trophy with a pair of impressive wins over Hamilton-Wenham and Danvers. Nick Deleon had 20 points and six assists in the championship victory to take home MOP honors.
