CUMBERLAND — A Baltimore man was arrested Sunday a short time after police determined the vehicle he was operating in a traffic stop was reported as stolen in the District of Columbia, according to Cumberland Police.
Norman Earl Smith, 27, was charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft of $1,500 to under $25,000, unlawful removal of a motor vehicle and rogue and vagabond when he was taken into custody on an arrest warrant.
The warrant was obtained after information was developed in cooperation of with D.C. Metropolitan Police.
The traffic stop was made on Mechanic Street where police determined that Smith did not have a valid operator’s license. The vehicle was towed from the scene and Smith was released after being issued several traffic citations. He was taken into custody later in the day on the arrest warrant served at an undisclosed location.
