Douglas Aylward will enter the upcoming postseason wrestling meets having stashed a massive career milestone under his belt.
Saturday morning, the Triton senior and three-time Daily News All-Star continued to cement himself as one of the greats to come through the program, going 3-0 with two pins at a home quad meet to pick up his 100th career victory on the mat. The 215-pounder entered this winter with a sparkling 71-16 career record, and is now 29-1 on the year heading into the Division 3 North Sectionals next weekend at Tewksbury.
“It’s a great milestone for a great career,” said Triton coach Shawn McElligott.
And, of course, he’s still the reigning 182-pound Division 3 State Champion.
Plus, Aylward’s milestone was the cherry on top of an overall stellar day for Triton as a whole. The Vikings rolled to three victories over Nashoba Tech (78-6), Wilmington (60-17) and Quabbin (65-15), and finish up their regular season as CAL Champions and with a 19-1 record.
For other highlights, you don’t have to look much further.
Senior Zachary Zinck was named Triton’s honorary captain for the day, and earned his first varsity pin with a 73-second victory against Nashoba’s 144-pounder. You then had freshman Riley Anne-Tarmey fill in at 106 for the Vikings, and go 3-0 on the day with a pair of pins.
Elsewhere, Nolan Merrill went a perfect 3-0 with three pins at 175, and Dan Burrow put together a 3-0 day with three pins between 215 and heavyweight. You then had Sam Imlach go 3-0 with two pins at 126, and Nic Serino also had a pair of pins at 190. Brian Quam went undefeated with two pins between 138 and 144, and the trio of Aiden Quinn (132), Austin Scolamiero (113) and Jordan Ortiz (157) were all 3-0 as well.
