The Cumberland County Republican Women’s guest speaker for their June 5 meeting will be Rachel Bruning, executive director of the Avalon Center in Crossville.
The Avalon Center is dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Since 2008, Bruning has served the center in a variety of roles, culminating in her being named its executive director in 2015.
Bruning earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from The University of Tennessee. From there she went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the Nashville School of Law in 2013. That same year she began serving as the Avalon Center’s staff attorney.
Bruning is a recognized leader in trauma-informed care. She is the co-author of Best Practices for Shelter Guidelines for the State of Tennessee.
She currently serves on the board of directors for the Trauma Informed Care Alliance, where she continues to advocate for systems that promote safety, healing, and empowerment for survivors.
With more than 15 years of experience in advocacy, legal services, and non-profit leadership, Bruning brings a deep commitment to equity, dignity, and justice to her work each day.
The group’s regular meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.
“The meeting will include the announcement of scholarship awards that CCRW presents each year, to three of Cumberland County graduating seniors,” said Linda Clark, Republican Women president.
The meeting will be at Tennessee College of Applied Technology Upper Cumberland at 910 Miller Ave, Crossville; doors are open at 5 p.m.
