ROCKPORT — Author AJ Fripp plans to be front and center later this month for a reading of her children’s picture book, “Paco’s Dreams.”
The reading by the Lincoln resident, which will include a musical presentation, is slated to take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Aug. 21, at at the Rockport Public Library, 17 School St.
“Paco’s Dreams” is a story about the dog Paco and his magical nightly dreams. The children’s story is aimed at ages 4-8.
“It is a book written specifically to be read at bedtime,” Fripp said. “It is just a simple, delicious bedtime story with gorgeous illustrations by Havilah Racette.”
Fripp, who has been writing consistently for more than 15 years, has also penned short stories, both fiction and non-fiction, and has written for local newspapers and magazines, including The Christian Science Monitor and Mudd Magazine.
Joining Fripp for a musical accompaniment will be Arlington resident, musician and composer David Stern. Stern wrote the music to be performed specifically for “Paco’s Dreams.”
“David’s music adds another sensory experience for the children,” Fripp said. “They may find the music more interesting and inspirational than the story.”
In addition to being a pianist and composer, Stern is an organizer and fundraiser for the new “Film to Music Festival,” slated to premiere in late 2027. His novella, “These Things Happen” is due out in early December.
Fripp said “Paco’s Dreams” was based on her dog Paco, a Spanish water dog.
As a breed, Spanish water dogs are known to be very smart and capable of working a variety of tasks.
“I found that fact interesting, especially the fact that Spanish water dog can be trained diving dogs, capable of retrieving things from under water,” Fripp said.
