CLINTONVILLE — As Ed Sullivan once said, the toast of the town predicts that Guys and Dolls will be the Toast of the World.
Guys and Dolls is coming to AuSable Valley.
Loaded with the biggest number of students to ever join their cast for a performance, the AuSable Valley Players are primed for an outstanding
show this spring.
Guys and Dolls premiers on stage beginning at 7 p.m. on March 14 at the AuSable Valley Auditorium.
Shows continue on March 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. matinee on March 17.
“This has been extremely fun for us to work on,” said Addie Stanley, a senior
cast member starring as Miss Adelaide. “In all my years here doing the musical, I have not had the chance to do a classical musical, and I think our group is excited to perform for our community.”
Tickets can be purchased for $10 per seat at https://avcs.seatyourself.biz.
More than 50 students are taking part in this year’s event, following a successful showing of Grease last year.
“There is definitely an increased interest in musical theater here at AuSable Valley,” said Gigi Mason, a longtime choreography specialist for the AuSable Valley Players. “I think what’s special about them is how good they are to each other. They come here and are ready to work hard, and they all have a lot going on each day.”
With roles made famous by Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, Vivian Blaine and many more, there is plenty of excitement by the entire cast at AuSable Valley.
Senior Lindsay Haner will star as Sarah Brown and is ready for her final high school show with an amazing cast.
“This is the most talent we have ever had in a cast because we can pull from so many different directions, and there are so many different skillsets,” Haner said.
Haner will be majoring in musical education with a minor in theater when she goes onto college. She said the entire cast is looking forward to the many memories to come.
“I just love performing,” Hanley said. “It’s what I do. It’s my favorite thing. It’s what I am all about. We have so many people with passion, and it’s going to make for such a great show.”
Guys and Dolls is sponsored by AuSable Chasm, Rogers Carroll Family Foundation and Mountain Valley Federal Credit Union.
Speaking on behalf of the entire cast, Stanley said there is one message that is seeming to resonate with the AuSable Valley Players.
“With shows like this, it’s about being in the moment,” Stanley said. “The rehearsals are flying by, and we have to enjoy the moments. For me personally, I just want to live in the moment. It’s the last time I will be doing theater for the foreseeable future, so I just want to soak in the time with my friends for this last time.”
