From county to city and elementary to high school, students celebrated “crushing” and “rocking” 100 days of the 2023-2024 school year on Monday, Jan. 29.
Students arrived at school dressed for the occasion, with some choosing to wear shirts commemorating 100 days and others choosing to dress like 100-year-olds. They also brought posters and crafts showing collections of 100 items, such as coins and guitar picks.
Different schools hosted different activities for the students to visualize how far they’ve come. Younger students used cereal to make “necklaces” of 100 pieces. Julian Newman Elementary School hid 100 Athens City School “eagles” around their campus with the hopes that all 100 would be found by the end of the day.
Fifth and sixth graders at Athens Intermediate School used a 10×10 grid to create designs and determine the percentages of shaded squares. At the high school level, Elkmont administrators celebrated the day by making 100 positive phone calls to students’ guardians to celebrate them.
