HAVERHILL — This fall, the canvas will stretch over the downtown corridor once again, with the region’s top talents and craftsmen set to return.
The Haverhill Art Walk will add a fresh layer of paint from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, calling artists, musicians, businesses and community members to the downtown Riverfront Cultural District.
Visitors can expect an afternoon of art and interactive programming, with a museum worth of art mediums moving across multiple street corners.
One of the larger events, the Alleyway Art Market, will bring local and regional artisans to some of the most underutilized spaces in the city. The artists will set up tables to display and sell their work in the alleyways along Washington Street, providing an opportunity for folks to explore and discover talents.
Hosted by Creative Haverhill, organizers are especially seeking plein air painters and urban sketchers to participate along the art market route.
Space is limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee entry. Applications are due Tuesday, Sept. 8, and can be filed at creativehaverhill.org/haverhill-art-walk.
Organizations, businesses and individuals are invited to create free, interactive programming for the Haverhill Art Walk. Many vendors and performers will be stationed in the park at Railroad Square and in the lot next to Creative Haverhill at 43 Washington St.
Pop-up exhibitions, performances and other relevant events will be held inside the shops and stores along Washington and Wingate streets.
This September event follows the most recent Haverhill Art Walk in June, when the celebration unveiled the “Downtown Haverhill Planter Box Mural Project.” The initiative pulled the curtain on 16 hand-painted planter boxes cascaded throughout the corridor. Once gray and largely unnoticeable buffers between sidewalks and roadways, the planters are now colorful odes to the artists’ culture, style and the Merrimack Valley.
Haverhill Art Walk is featured twice a year — every June and September, as an indoor and outdoor community event.
