AMESBURY — The Gallery at Trades Mill presents Threading the Needle: Art Quilts by Diane Sheckells, a solo exhibition celebrating the artistry and storytelling of fiber artist Diane Sheckells.
The exhibition runs Aug. 19 to Sept. 23, at The Gallery at Trades Mill, 6 Chestnut St., second floor, Amesbury.
Sheckells is an accomplished fiber artist whose work pushes the traditional boundaries of quilting, transforming fabric, thread, stitch, and found elements into richly layered works of art.
Her work has been exhibited in prestigious venues including the New England Quilt Museum, the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, the Whistler House Museum of Art, the Brush Art Gallery, and Sacred Threads, an exhibition dedicated to exploring the connections between faith, spirituality, and art.
Sheckells is also a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates and her work has been featured in the organization’s traveling exhibitions.
“The art quilt is so much more than something made to be used,” Sheckells said. “It can hold a story, preserve a memory, explore an idea, or simply invite us to see fabric and thread in a completely different way.”
