A worthy athlete just added another award to her collection.
This past weekend, Pentucket basketball superstar Amelia Crowe was the recipient of the Roger Alley Sportsmanship Women Player of the Year Award, given out by the Massachusetts IAABO Board 130 officials. A deserving honor, as Crowe averaged a team-high 14.9 points per game with 55 3-pointers in leading Pentucket (18-6) to the program’s fourth straight trip to a state quarterfinal.
Crowe was also named the CAL Kinney MVP for the second consecutive year, and her 1,176 career points places her third all-time in school history — boy or girl. She will now once again be a captain for the Pentucket girls flag football team this spring.
Port track star Lisauskas picks Tufts
One of the most versatile track athletes in the area has found a college home.
Newburyport senior Kyle Lisauskas recently made it official, committing to continue his career at Tufts University. The jack-of-all-trades athlete was our Daily News Indoor Track MVP as well as an Outdoor Track All-Star last year, and is on his way to earning similar honors after another fantastic season on the track this winter.
Over the past few months during the indoor season, Lisauskas most notably broke the Newburyport school record in the 55-meter hurdles when he posted a blazing time of 7.65. He also posted the second-fastest time in the area in the 300 (36.02) and the fifth-fastest time in the dash (6.91), while also tying for first in the high jump (6-4) and having the second-best long jump (20-5.00) — while running the 4×400 relay! At Meet of Champions, Lisuaskas reached the podium twice after finishing sixth in the hurdles (7.69) and eighth in the high jump (6-2).
And now, he’s gearing up for the outdoor season. A year ago, Lisauskas broke Newburyport records in the 1500 (4:37.13), 110 hurdles (14.7), 300 hurdles (39.88), 400 hurdles (55.55), Pentathlon (2990 points) and Decathlon (5624 points).
Newburyport Wall of Fame note
The Newburyport Wall of Fame is accepting nominations.
Honorees should be men or women who have made significant contributions to athletics at Newburyport High School, including players, coaches, teachers, administrators or others.
New changes in the bylaws have shifted the eligibility timeline. Coaches and contributors are now eligible at any time (can now include active coaches or contributors). There is a gradual shift in the student eligibility that over the next few years will bring the requirement from 20 years post-graduation down to 10 (ex. 2025 class is 18 years, 2026 class is 16 years … until 2029 class at 10 years).
The nomination deadline is June 1st to be eligible for the fall induction. Nominations are considered by the committee for up to three years; at which time, if the nominee has not been selected, they must be renominated for further consideration
