The Rangers held off a furious bottom-of-the-seventh rally to claim the opening-day win for new head coach Jordan Britton.
Alex Santiago singled and doubled, scoring three runs in the leadoff spot. Brock Lanoue also had two hits and drove in three.
Phillips 5, St. Sebastian’s 1Interim head coach Ben Reinisch, a 2015 Big Blue grad, picked up career win No. 1 thanks to a combined two-hitter. Juniors Matt Shampine, Michael Doherty and Mikah Krystofolski were sharp on the mound as Phillips moved to 1-1.
Tri-County 6, Whittier Tech 2Nate Comeau, Jalen Cuello (1 RBI), Will Heisler and Charlie Morrison (1 RBI) had the hits for the Wildcats.
Softball
Phillips 9, Williston Northampton 0Salem’s Rihana Gomez singled and homered, driving in a pair for the Big Blue. Lawrence’s Gaby Potter doubled in two runs, while Victoria MacKenzie of North Andover was 2 for 2.
Girls Lacrosse
Central Catholic 16, Boston Latin 3Meg Delorey led a balanced Raider attack in the opener, scoring three goals. Maeve O’Sullivan (3 assists), Maeve McManmon, Kate Galvin, Fiona DeLisle, Lila Christy (2 assists) and Sarah Wilson all scored twice. DeLisle had 10 draw controls, and Anne Cashman made 13 saves in net.
Haverhill 10, Somerville 7Megan Doody scored five goals to lead the Hillies, who built an 8-2 halftime lead and never looked back. Shannon Gallagher scored twice, while Sierra Jepson, Jenna Schultz and Natalie Libby had single goals. Keira Drouin made seven saves.
Swampscott 14, Methuen 9The Rangers fall to 0-2 despite four goals from Grace Ricupero. Hanane Aboutoui, Lily Giard, Alanna Bistany, Lexi Mckenna and Eva Comeau also scored. Meghan Terry totaled seven saves.
Boys Tennis
Haverhill 4, Lawrence 1Miles Stapel, Thomas Frame and Josh Forman swept the singles for the Hillies. Austin Palmisano and Liam Wilder delivered the “W” at first doubles. Lawrence avoided the shutout with a second doubles win from Chris Williams and Edwin Rodriguez.
Volleyball
Greater Lowell 3, Greater Lawrence Tech 1The Reggies fall to 1-2 despite a 23-assist night from Anthony Rubim. Jelisson Peguero served 11 points and added eight kills. Jose Pena had eight kills and five blocks, while Nicholas Marshall chipped in defensively with 21 digs.
Methuen 3, BC High 0Andrew Cox and Cole Tourkantonis combined for 30 kills in the victory. Freshman Anthony Machado stood out defensively with seven digs for the 2-1 Rangers.
