BOYS TENNIS
Gloucester 5, Rockport 0: The Fishermen (now 13-4) stayed hot, cruising to victory at home on Tuesday. Andry Payano Sosa, Anders Littman and Shane Widtfeldt won their singles matches while the doubles teams of Dom Paone/Luke McElhenny and Cam Widtfeldt/Cole Ciolino rolled in doubles action.
On Monday, the Fishermen topped Wakefield, 3-2. With the two teams tied at 2-2, it all came down to second doubles where Cam Widtfeldt and Ciolino rallied back in the deciding third set to pull out a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 win.
“They came storming back with aggressive, assertive play in front of a large, raucous crowd gathered around court 5,” said Gloucester coach Derek Geary. “I was most proud that they went for the win with passion and prevailed rather than playing not to lose. It was kind of a Hollywood scripted scene on Senior Night in front of a huge crowd.”
