Haverhill 8, Everett/Revere 2
Senior captain Jack Baker netted the hat-trick to lead the Hillies to the Palm Division championship in their annual Christmas tourney. Nolan Sheehan, Tim Rosenthal, Matt Costa, Ethan Jalbert and Peter Grillo all had single goals for Haverhill. Jalbert passed out four assists. Max Boyer made 14 saves in net for the win.
Methuen 3, Hopkinton 1
The Rangers captured the title in their inaugural Jersey Mike’s Holiday Classic with the victory. Will MacLaren, Aiden Cashman and Dylan Anderson had the Ranger goals.
Cashman’s game-winner, breaking a 1-1 tie, came with three minutes left in regulation. Owen O’Brien made 31 saves to lock up the victory.
BC High 3, Central Catholic 1
The Raiders got a Jake Morowski goal and 34 saves from Logan Sheedy in the consolation round loss at the Frates tourney.
Girls Hockey
HPNA 4, Nauset 1
Mia Kmiec scored two goals, while Charlotte Woodford and Kira Dolan added single scores in the win. Julianna Taylor stopped 26 of 27 shots for the win in goal.
Boys Basketball
Haverhill 59, Westford 52
The Hillies made it two straight, earning a spot in Monday night’s title game in the IAABO Board 95 Winter Classic tourney at Westford Academy.
Alejandro Iraheta paced the Hillies with 16 points. Jon Matombo added a dozen, and Saul Cruz had 10 with 15 boards.
The Hillies will now play Lowell at Westford on Monday night at 7:15 p.m. for the tourney title.
Pelham 81, Pinkerton 77 (OT)
The Pythons got 22 from Brady Hogan and 15 from Shawn Bodenrader in the consolation game at the IAABO Board 95 tourney. Brady Sullivan led the Astros with 17, and Josh Phanor had 14.
Monday at 2 p.m., Pinkerton plays Merrimack in the seventh-place game, followed by Pelham playing Groton-Dunstable in the fifth place game at 3:45 p.m.
Timberlane 48, Spaulding 30
The Owls did a great job this week, rebounding from the opening-round loss in the Bobcat Classic to win back-to-back games and grab fifth-place in the event. They also evened a score with Spaulding, which took the season-opening night meeting between the two. Liam Kelley had 10 points, and Jeremy Mlocek, Mike Santosuosso, and Matt Fitzgerald all had eight apiece.
“We were excited to see the improvement we made before the game compared to our opening night loss to Spaulding a couple weeks ago. To come out with the victory was a great feeling for the group,” said coach Jeff Baumann.
Girls Basketball
Whittier Tech 60, Amesbury 53 (OT)
The Wildcats rallied from an 11-point hole to force over time, then stunned the hosts in a battle of undefeated teams to tae the Amesbury Holiday tourney title.
The Ortiz sisters, Jacki and Yami, came alive to ignite the Wildcats. Jacki led all scorers with 24, and Yami had nine as both earned spots in the all-tourney team. Nevaeh Wilkins netted 17 to take home the tourney MVP. For the second straight night, Vanessa Taylor dominated on the backboards.
Lawrence 62, Salem, Mass. 22
Altagracia Maria Nunez led the Lancers to the consolation game win of the Amesbury Holiday tourney with 16 points, earning a tourney all-star nod. Yeira Davila added a dozen in the win.
Windham 38, Salem 30
The Jaguars made it two straight wins in the Cougar Classic at Derryfield behind an 11-point night from Liz Grasso. Rileigh Finneran added six points for Windham.
Pelham 49, Conant 38
Grace Riley scored 16 points, adding 10 steals for the Pythons, who delivered their second win in as many days at the Chandler Tournament in Manchester. Addie Breault and Sophia Guinazzo each chipped in eight points while Jessie Phillips added six points.
Wrestling
Central wins in Maine
Central Catholic’s wrestlers headed north and captured the championship in a very strong Noble Invitational tourney in Maine.
The Raiders got wins from Cole Glynn at 113 and Brian Waller-Reitano at 285. Glynn earned the “Outstanding Wrestler” of the meet, with four pins and a 3-0 decision over the top seed in the finals.
Waller-Reitano rolled up five straight wins by fall for his championship. He only wrestled into the second period once on the day.
Salem High placed fourth overall, led by 120-pound champ Evan Lynch.
