BOSTON — Newbury, Rowley and Georgetown were among the communities receiving good news last week when the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed a $561 million bond bill known as MassWINS on July 8.
The legislation makes targeted updates across dozens of state programs to improve efficiency, encourage investment, reduce barriers to economic development, and better prepare Massachusetts for emerging industries and workforce needs, according to the state.
“MassWINS builds on our rich history of innovation and talent in the Commonwealth, strengthens our workforce, modernizes infrastructure, expands education, and streamlines permitting,” local state Rep. Kristin Kassner, D-Hamilton, said.
Kassner included the following bond priorities that were adopted as part of the MassWINS legislation:
Shellfish harvesters will receive $100,000 be put in reserve to mitigate the economic loss due to the recent Haverhill sewer main break in the Merrimack River.
Hamilton will receive $100,000 for completion of its historic Town Hall.
Georgetown will receive $100,000 for water and wastewater infrastructure for downtown development.
Ipswich will receive $100,000 for infrastructure to facilitate economic development in downtown Ipswich
Topsfield will receive $100,000 for improvements to water infrastructure in support of housing and economic growth.
Newbury will receive $100,000 for improvements to the site of the Larkin Dam Removal Project, the Plum Island shoreline and other natural resource areas.
Rowley will receive $100,000 for water infrastructure within the town to support housing and economic growth.
