NEWBURYPORT — Local author Edith Maxwell, writing as Maddie Day will be launching her newest book “A Poisonous Pour,” on Saturday, at 5 p.m. at Jabberwocky Bookshop. She will be joined by fellow local author Connie Hambley for a discussion and signing.
“A Poisonous Pour” is the newest entry in the Cece Barton mysteries.
The Agatha-winning and Macavity-nominated author writes the Quaker Midwife Mysteries and the Local Foods Mysteries, as well as award-winning short crime fiction. As Maddie Day she authors the Country Store Mysteries, the Cozy Capers Book Group Mysteries, and the Cece Barton Mysteries. She also wrote two Lauren Rousseau Mysteries. Maxwell lives north of Boston with her beau, their sweet cat Martin, and her organic garden; she blogs with the other Wicked Authors and at Mystery Lovers’ Kitchen.
Then, on Sunday May, at 4 p.m., New England author Laura Garden will be celebrating the release of her debut novel “Queenslander,” at Jabberwocky. She will be interviewed by Massachusetts author Sally Milliken.
Garden studied conservation biology in Yungaburra, Queensland with the School for Field Studies, where she fell in love with Australia. She has won several writing contests, including an award from Writer’s Digest, as well as fellowships from Wesleyan University and Harvard University. She was longlisted for the Minds Shine Bright Prize in Melbourne. She runs the substack “Writing in Work Gloves.” She has a master’s degree from Harvard University and lives on a farm in Massachusetts.
