The Aquarium of Niagara hosted its annual World Ocean Day celebration on Sunday, part of a global effort to promote marine conservation and awareness around the threats to the oceans.
The Niagara Falls facility welcomed just under 1,000 guests. The event featured the several opportunities for visitors to take a deep dive into three marine species that are threatened with extinction — coral, sea turtles, and sharks. Through hands-on demonstrations and activities, guests learned about topics like coral bleaching and came away with actionable steps they can take in their own lives to make a difference for animals in the wild.
They also learned how accredited zoos and aquariums are working together to advance collective conservation initiatives. The Island Princess (Moana) was also on hand for meet-and-greets and singalongs.
