HAVERHILL — The annual car show to benefit Veterans Northeast Outreach Center in Haverhill is moving to North Shore Community College in Danvers and is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 27.
For the past two years, the event was held in the parking lot of the Hartleb Technology Center on NECC’s Haverhill campus.
This year’s theme is “Cars and Cans” and organizers are asking visitors to the Danvers’ event to bring canned goods to support the VNEOC’s food pantry in Haverhill.
The event is an opportunity for owners to show off classic, antique and specially vehicles.
VNEOC Executive Director Bill Kelly said his organization has a long standing collaborative relations with Haverhill institutions like NECC but was looking for a way to expand its visibility throughout the region.
He said VNEOC is a regional nonprofit with a service area that encompasses all of Essex County, along with Middlesex, Barnstable, Norfolk counties and the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
“North Shore offered the use of the facility, which has easy access to the Route 1, I-95 interchange,” Kelly said.
“We’re looking to try new things. We love Haverhill and we love NECC and will continue to hold events there but we wanted to try something new this year.”
Last year’s car show drew about 1,000 visitors, Kelly said.
No prizes will be awarded as this is a display only event. Coffee and doughnuts will be available. Entertainment includes music by a DJ as well as a 50/50 raffle and raffles for baskets. Resource tables will include the VA along with other veteran support and nonprofit organizations.
Visitors are asked to bring canned goods or cash donation as admission. The food pantry, located at 10 Reed St., is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all veterans.
“If you’re a veteran or you provide care to a veteran we will be available to answer questions so come and talk with us at our booth,” Kelly said.
