EXETER — The theme for this month’s competition at the Seacoast Art Association gallery is “For The Love of Animals.”
“You cannot share your life in a meaningful way with any animals such as a dog, cat, rabbit, bird, rat, pig, horse and so many more and not know that we are not the only sentient and sapient beings on the planet,” said renowned anthropologist Jane Goodall.
Congratulations to Cheryl Shanahan for winning Best in Show with her acrylic painting “Field Moose.”
“Moose are among the distinctive mammals that call New Hampshire home. To me, they symbolize independence, strength, resilience, and grace,” she said. “In this painting, I was exploring a full range of values and seeing how far I could stray from using black and brown but still have the moose look authentic.”
The theme shows Peoples Choice Award goes to Lynn Tatarczuk for her colored pencil drawing, “Ruddy Turnstone.”
“This piece is one of my first attempts with colored pencils. In the past my art mediums have included pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, acrylic and oil. However, I have fallen in love with colored pencil work,” she said. “It allows me to express myself through my love of detailed drawing and to play with colors and textures.”
The gallery’s theme changes every month and artists are invited to submit their art and be part of the show. The theme for July is “New England Summer”.
