The Northeastern Conference has officially released its annual wrestling awards, and a pair of Gloucester standouts were honored at the highest level.
Based solely on their championship level performances at the NEC/CAL Tournament, both Joe Allen (150 lbs.) and Zach Hashley (190 lbs.) were named named to the All-Conference team.
Allen dominated in his weight class at the marquee meet back in early February, claiming an individual title for the third consecutive year. A couple of weeks later, he recorded his 100th career win and ultimately secured a spot at both the state championships and the looming All-State meet.
Hashley, meanwhile, was the top NEC representative in the 190-pound class, claiming third place overall at the NEC/CAL tourney to earn the end-of-season award.
Representing Gloucester on the NEC All-Star squad was Aiden DeCoste (126 lbs.) and Max Thomas (215 lbs.). Both of them took third place overall at the NEC/CAL meet, and have continued to shine as the postseason rolls on.
Thomas finished as runner-up at last weekend’s Division 3 state championship meet and will wrestle at All-States beginning this Friday. DeCoste finished third at states while surpassing 100 career wins in the process, and he’ll be joining Thomas at All-States this weekend as well.
