CUMBERLAND — A man who allegedly made bomb threats along Washington Street on Monday afternoon was deemed not a threat, according to a Cumberland Police Department spokesperson.
The city police spokesperson said he was limited to the information he can provide due to the ongoing investigation.
City police and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the incident just after 4 p.m.
“We got a call that there was a subject outside the Allegany County Circuit Court making threats,” Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Richard Grimm said.
Personnel from the courthouse called police, Grimm said. The suspect was located in front of the Washington Street Library with a backpack.
“A (Department of Corrections) K-9 was requested and arrived,” Grimm said. “The bomb detection K-9 went around the bag and did not detect anything.”
Law enforcement then searched the bag and found nothing of substance, according to Grimm.
Information about whether the suspect will face charges was not available.
