CUMBERLAND — Allegany softball’s Desi Hilton earned the top play on Tuesday’s SportsCenter for her home run-robbing catch in the state semifinals against Mardela.
Hilton earned the top spot in the 6 p.m. edition of SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays.
“I think that it is such an amazing opportunity, and I’m forever grateful to my team,” Hilton said. “We’ll get them next year!”
Still scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, the Warriors loaded the bases before Delaney Lynerd sent a fly ball to left field.
Hilton crashed into the fence and landed on the other side but held on to the ball for the out.
The runner from third would score on a sacrifice fly RBI to win the game for Mardela, 1-0, which went on to win the state title.
“What an incredible catch Desi,” ESPN anchor Elle Duncan said during the broadcast. “You are number one, hey, incredible.”
The Campers finished 18-4 and a semifinalist in Class 1A, only losing one game against area competition, 3-0 to Frankfort.
