CUMBERLAND — Nailevid Lorenzo-Lopez, Avery Tipton and Sadie Bayko notched double doubles, Emmy Wilson had 15 kills and Allegany College defeat local rival WVU Potomac State, 3-1, on Tuesday night.
Allegany College (4-0) split the first two sets 25-22 and 13-25 before winning the final two 27-25 and 25-15 to take the match.
“I’m super proud of how my team played today,” Allegany College head coach Joe Brewer said. “It’s a big win for us, especially to pull out a win against such a tough opponent with a history of success. There were a lot of long defensive rallies with both teams giving their all each point. This is evident by the amount of digs on both sides of the net.”
Freshman Autumn Hoppert (Bishop Walsh) came up with important blocks at the end of the match to preserve momentum, and Wilson (Calvary) led the Eagles’ offense, using well-placed tips in key moments.
Lorenzo-Lopez finished with 27 assists, 17 digs and five kills, Tipton (Mountain Ridge) tallied 15 assists, 10 digs and an ace and Bayko ended with 10 kills, 13 digs and two aces.
Wilson added four digs and a block to her team-high kill total, Hoppert chipped in eight kills, two solo blocks and a block assist, and Jaci Rowe added seven kills, 12 digs and an ace.
Emonie Fennel paced WVU Potomac State (1-1) with a double double with 21 kills and 19 digs, Elliana Mosby had 14 kills and three blocks, Jillian Britton added 24 digs and two aces, Sarah Iman tallied eight kills, two solo blocks and two block assists, Victoria Lester garnered 45 assists and four blocks assists, and Skylar Riggleman had eight kills and 18 digs.
Potomac State hosts Howard and Chesapeake on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Allegany College heads to Baltimore Community College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
