PITTSBURGH — Allegany High graduate Kyra Pittman was named one of the University of Pittsburgh’s PNC Achievers of the Week following her debut performance in the circle last week.
Pittman, making her first two starts at Pitt in the LSU Invitational, finished the weekend with a 2.52 ERA and two strikeouts. Against Memphis, Pittman threw 18 strikes in her first 25 pitches and took a no-hitter into the bottom of the fourth inning. She has allowed just three hits with two strikeouts in five shutout innings.
Pittman, a junior, appeared in 17 games over two years at the University of Maryland before transferring to Pittsburgh.
The right-hander was 2-0 with a 3.57 earned-run average as a sophomore last year in College Park in six appearances in the circle, making two starts.
Pittman was a two-time Area Player of the Year at Allegany, winning the award as a freshman in 2018 and a senior in 2021.
Another former area softball standout Carly Cooper, the 2019 Area Player of the Year at Petersburg, is in her senior season at George Mason.
Cooper made two starts last weekend against Eastern Kentucky, going 0-2 with a 3.71 ERA in 11 1/3 innings pitched with seven strikeouts and four walks.
Cooper has made 39 career starts at Division 1 George Mason, in which she has a 3.36 ERA in 241 2/3 inning pitched.
