LINCOLN, Neb. — Allegany alumna Avery Miller is in eighth place in the heptathlon after Day 1 of the Big 10 track and field championships on Friday.
Miller, a freshman at Penn State, has 3,146 points. Her performance in the shot put (38’ 5”) and 100-meter hurdles (14.79) are personal bests.
The top eight finishers in each event earn team points and get on the podium.
Illinois’ JaCieonna Gero-Holt leads the field with 3,767 points.
Miller, who will retain her freshman eligibility next season with a medical redshirt, has a shot at breaking the all-time freshman heptathlon record of 5,265 points with a strong finish.
