First responders in the Upper Cumberland will participate in the advanced burn life support provider course Tuesday at Cumberland County Community Complex.
The course in ABLS, an intensive hands-on training designed to improve emergency response and treatment for burn victims during the critical first 24 hours following injury, will be from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Cumberland County Community Complex is at 1398 Livingston Road.
“This training reflects the foundation’s mission to ‘Fill in the Gaps’ for first responders and ensure that rural Upper Cumberland agencies have the training and resources they need to save lives,” said Chester Goad, president of the Serve Strong: Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation.
The training is part of the Serve Strong Training Series, an initiative of the Serve Strong: Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation aimed at helping rural first responders access advanced training and resources they often must travel or pay out-of-pocket to obtain.
The event is a collaboration between Cumberland County EMS, Serve Strong: Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The ABLS provider course is an eight-hour program for first responders. The live, hands-on course provides the “how-to” of emergency burn care, focusing on the assessment and treatment of burn patients during the first critical hours after injury.
The training includes hands-on emergency burn training and simulation and demonstration exercises as first responders participate in advanced medical training.
