THOMASVILLE- Thomasville Entertainment Foundation’s 87th concert series continues Tuesday, October 15, with a return appearance by the acclaimed Trio con Brio Copenhagen.
Tickets are still available for the classical concert, set for 7:30 p.m. in the intimate auditorium of the Thomasville Center for the Arts.
Based in Denmark, Trio con Brio is considered one of the world’s foremost piano trios, appearing regularly at leading venues and premiere concert series around the world. Critics laud the ensemble for its exceptional musicianship, fresh approach to repertoire, adventurous programming and commitment to bringing music to people of all ages through their highly creative concerts.
Their Thomasville perform will include Beethoven’s Piano Trio in D major (often referred to as “Ghost”), Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A minor and a new work by Danish composer Bent Sørensen entitled “Masquerade,” which the Trio just premiered in May.
“We are very excited to bring the Trio con Brio Copenhagen back to our audience, 18 years to the day that they performed for us in 2006 as winners of the Kalichstein-Laredo -Robinson International Trio Award that our organization helped sponsor,” explained TEF Executive & Artistic Director Rick Ivey. “This group is truly among the best of the best, and it’s a rare treat to hear them perform in a small community like ours and in such an intimate setting.”
Trio con Brio Copenhagen is a fusion of two overlapping “musical pairs:” two sisters, violinist Soo-Jin Hong and cellist Soo-Kyung Hong, are from South Korea; pianist Jens Elvekjaer, Soo-Kyung’s husband, is from Denmark.
Trio con Brio Copenhagen’s multifaceted members are not only performing artists who tour extensively, but also esteemed recording artists, artistic directors and educators. The Trio appears regularly at such venerable venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, London’s Wigmore Hall, Berlin’s Pierre Boulez-Saal, Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw and many more. The ensemble’s recordings have also received tremendous critical acclaim.
Soo-Jin plays an Andrea Guarneri violin, Soo-Kyung plays a Grancino cello, and Jens is Denmark’s first Steinway Artist.
Tickets for Tuesday’s performance are $40 for adults, $15 for students, and all seats are reserved. A number of free seats for local high school students are available through TEF’s innovative Tickets for Teens program, funded in part by a grant from the Thomasville Antiques Show Foundation and an anonymous contribution to TEF’s Education Fund.
