Dear campus community,
As we close Pride Month, I want to take a moment to recognize the many members of our campus community who help make SUNY Plattsburgh a place where every individual is welcomed, valued and respected. Pride Month offers an opportunity to celebrate the history, resilience and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals while reaffirming our shared commitment to fostering a community where everyone can learn, work and thrive as their authentic selves.
I also want to share the following statement from SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. and the SUNY Board of Trustees, which reflects these values across the SUNY system:
“Across New York state and the country, Pride Month serves as an important celebration of love and equality and as an opportunity to amplify the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. At SUNY, we are proud to recognize the history and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community — from 1951 State University of New York at Albany alumnus and civil rights pioneer Harvey Milk to Lianne De La Cruz, a SUNY Upstate student and the 2025 recipient of the Harvey Milk Scholarship Award for Student Leadership — as we work to create a more inclusive, tolerant and loving world where everyone can be their true selves.
“During Pride Month and beyond, we will continue to work tirelessly to foster an environment where every student, faculty and staff member is seen and respected for who they are.”
Thank you as well to our maintenance and operations team for ensuring that the LGBTQIA+ pride flags flew across campus throughout Pride Month. Their efforts provided a visible symbol of support and belonging for members of our campus community and all who visited our campus this month.
Thank you to everyone who contributes to making SUNY Plattsburgh a welcoming and inclusive community throughout Pride Month and every month of the year.
