The Salem High champs were celebrated Saturday during a rainy, rolling rally and an indoor ceremony to a soggy but still excited group of fans and family.
The rolling rally consisted of student champions riding on several buses and trolleys, escorted by Salem police cruisers and motorcycles, and the Salem Fire Department. The parade started at Salem High School on Willson Street, then wound its way over to Derby Street and Hawthorne Boulevard before heading back to the field house for a ceremony in honor of the champions.
The celebration recognized this year’s Athletics and Performing Arts State Champions:
– Boys Basketball (MIAA Division 3 State Champions)
– Alexia Coleman (Wrestling: MIAA Division 2 132 pound State Champion)
– Grant Dwyer (Swimming: MIAA Division 2 200 IM & 500 Free State Champion)
– Salem HS Marching Band (NESBA Division 3 Champion & MICCA 5-Star Gold Medal Rating)
– Salem HS Jazz Ensemble (MAJE Gold Medal)
