VALDOSTA — Half a dozen murder suspects have been indicted in three cases by the Lowndes County Grand Jury, a court calendar released Tuesday showed.
The six were indicted as part of the grand jury’s March 2024 term.
— Two women were indicted for a killing at a store.
Police responded Dec. 12 to a store in the 2100 block of Bemiss Road, where Farooq Baig, 73, was found lying on the floor near gaming machines hidden in the back. Baig had obvious signs of a physical struggle on his body, police said.
Sheraka Washington, 36, and Daja Kalice James, 18, were indicted on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and robbery by force.
— A Lowndes County man was indicted for a shooting that killed a child.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to South Georgia Medical Center on Dec. 22 at about 4:50 p.m. for an individual with a gunshot wound, a sheriff’s office statement said.
The victim — a 13-year-old boy — was shot after a domestic disturbance in a home, the sheriff’s office said.
Lavonte Durel Seward, 38, of Lowndes County, was indicted on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault-family violence, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and cruelty to children in the first degree, the court calendar said.
—- Three suspects who were teen-agers at the time were indicted for a May shooting that left a 15-year-old dead.
Jamar Rashad Wimbush, 17, Tyrell Bolden, 17, and Lutravis Hester, 16, were indicted on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the court calendar said.
Around 11:48 p.m. May 20, officers headed to a parking lot at Scott Park, in the 1100 block of Old Statenville Road, after a caller to E911 reported a shooting, a police statement said.
They found an unresponsive 15-year-old boy lying alone in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. The officers rendered first aid until EMTs arrived, but the boy was declared dead on the scene, the statement said.
