The Athens City Council will hold two public hearings on Monday, Sept. 16, in accordance to two proposed resolutions that could approve the development of a Five Guys, Texas Roadhouse, Nothing Bundt Cakes and a 7 Brew Drive-Thru Coffee stores, according to public notices from the city of Athens.
“The public benefits to the city to be derived from this project are numerous,” the public notice stated. “The city believes that the proposed economic development project will create new jobs within the municipality, will generate additional tax revenues, will increase commerce in the municipality and will generally promote the economic development of the municipality.”
The first economic development project up for approval, which intends to develop a Five Guys restaurant and a Nothing Bundt Cakes store, mentioned an unspecified site located on Kelli Drive near Highway 72 East.
The second economic development project up for approval, which intends to develop a Texas Roadhouse restaurant and a 7 Brew Drive-Thru Coffee store, mentioned 1702 U.S. Highway 72 East. If approved Monday, this project would also include the construction of a new public roadway that would connect the existing access roads, according to the public notice.
“The city council will consider the adoption of a resolution authorizing the City of Athens to enter into a project agreement with the companies,” the public notice stated.
According to the public notices, the two projects are anticipated to generate approximately 215 new jobs in total for the city of Athens.
