A Cumberland County man found in possession of meth in personal papers he carried into the jail at the Justice Center has resulted in a three-year sentence.
The defendant was one of five entering guilty pleas recently in Criminal Court.
Jason Sherrill, 44, was scheduled to go on trial when he decided to accept a plea agreement that resulted in his incarceration.
Sherrill was on the court docket with two cases. One case involved charges of simple possession of meth and introducing contraband into a penal institution. The other case listed charges of DUI; resisting a stop, arrest or search; violation of the sex offender registry form; and driving on a suspended license.
In the first case, Sherrill pleaded guilty to the contraband charge and as a Range 1 offender, is to serve three years at 30% with credit for 60 days already served in jail. Fine and court costs were waived.
The offense date is listed as Dec. 9, 2023, and took place when he was being booked on unrelated charges.
In the second case that occurred on Feb. 27, 2023, Sherrill pleaded guilty to attempted violation of the sex offender registry form and DUI. He received two 11-month, 29-day sentences with all to be served at the same time.
In these cases, Sherrill is being given credit for 280 days served in jail since his arrest.

Remaining charges were dropped.
