PEABODY — Four residents were displace, but no injuries were reported after a fire at a single-family home at 81 Northend St. on Christmas morning.
The Peabody Fire Department responded to the call shortly after 7 a.m. and were able to contain the fire to the first floor and extinguish it with the four residents and their three guests all escaping unharmed, according Peabody Fire Deputy Chief Nelson Richard. Firefighters also rescued a cat.
Crews determined that the source of the fire was in the piping connecting a wood pellet stove on the first floor to the wall.
The fire resulted in smoke damage to the first and second floors, as well as water damage on the first floor. The Red Cross supplied the occupants with short term housing.
