OAKLAND — Two people suffered minor injuries and a third jumped overboard when a flash fire occurred Tuesday in a boat at Deep Creek Lake in the area of the 1700 block of Paradise Point Road, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The 11:52 a.m. fire occurred when gasoline vapors were ignited by electrical equipment in the hull area of a 23-foot Supra Saltare boat owned by Jonathan Greenawalt, investigators said.
The incident occurred as the boat owner and acquaintances were completing work after discovering a fuel tank leak, according to officials.
Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department handled the incident upon alert by the Garrett County 911 emergency center.
The fire caused damages estimated at $20,000 to the boat and $500 to the dock where the fire occurred, according to the fire marshal’s office.
