At the 127 Senior Center, the fun starts early on Friday mornings at 8 a.m. when the doors open, the coffee is brewed, and members gather to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, and maybe play a game or two of dominoes.
Membership of the 127 Senior Center is open to all in the community, aged 50 or older.
Bingo starts at 9:30, and then President Arlene Simmons presides over a short business meeting afterwards to let the members know of upcoming events and community announcements. She then opens the floor to any members for announcements or jokes. Member Leonard Hollender can always be counted on to share a very funny joke. Once the meeting wraps up, there is musical entertainment or a community speaker who shares helpful information for seniors. The center is always on the lookout for speakers or musicians who want to share with the members and offers a free lunch to show their gratitude. If you know of anyone who would like to speak or entertain at the center, contact Vice President Chuck Elgin at elginchuck56@gmail.com.
At the last meeting, the members enjoyed hearing from Sheriff Casey Cox and Lieutenant Gary Howard, speaking about safety issues for seniors. Afterwards, lunch is served, prepared by volunteers, which the members can purchase for $5.
If you enjoy relaxing and listening to some great live music, come on over to the center on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. You will get to hear some very talented musicians including member Gene Brown. No membership is required to come out and enjoy the music. It’s so good, you might just find yourself dancing!
Call the 127 Senior Center at 931-484-2547 if you would like more information on becoming a member.
