At the last meeting of the 127 Seniors, the members were entertained by Holly and Joe Fortner, also know as Blind Date Vocal and Guitar Duo. Holly and Joe are fairly recent transplants to the area, and the 127 Seniors are so glad they found them. Holly and Joe always give a fun performance, with lots of laughs, fun facts about old songs, and music to sing along with. They sang many old love songs in honor of Valentine’s Day including Dancing Cheek to Cheek, Can’t Help Falling in Love, and of course My Funny Valentine.
Holly and Joe can play jazz, standards, blues, soft rock, country, and a wide variety of music. Please contact them if you are interested in having them perform for your event or your organization. You can email them at fortner1@comcast.net or find them on Facebook. The 127 Seniors highly recommend them.
Every Friday morning at 9:30, the members are excited to get started with Bingo, which is very popular at the 127 Senior Center. The center is entirely self-funded and relies on donations to keep things running smoothly, including having plenty of popular Bingo prizes. If you know of a local business who might want to sponsor Bingo for them, please give the center a call at 931-484-2547.
During the last meeting, Bingo was sponsored by Estella Morris, a long-time member who loves the center and is getting ready to celebrate her 100th birthday soon.
The members also celebrated Tom and Nancy Fincher, who will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary Feb. 28. Congratulations to Tom and Nancy!
The 127 Seniors always welcome new members 50 years of age or older. The regular meetings are on Fridays, with the doors opening at 8 a.m. for coffee and fellowship, games, or just chatting and catching up with old friends and making new ones.
Bingo is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and then there is a short meeting so the members can find out about all the events coming up. After the meeting, there is musical entertainment or a speaker who shares helpful information for local seniors. Lunch is next, which members can purchase for $5.
The community is also invited to come out and enjoy a free movie, along with popcorn and soft drinks, on the second Monday of every month, at 2 p.m. The February movie was When Harry met Sally, a fun romantic comedy in honor of Valentine’s Day. The movie for March has not been announced yet but stay tuned. You can follow the 127 Senior Center on Instagram or Facebook for more announcements.
The 127 Senior Center is available for rent, if you have a group that needs a meeting place. Call the center at 931-484-2547 for more information.
