Crossville, Tenn. — July 2025 — A community nonprofit that honors the legacy of one of Cumberland County’s own is receiving a major boost thanks to a $100,000 grant from the state of Tennessee.
The Serve Strong: Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation has been awarded the funds through the Tennessee General Assembly, with the grant administered by the Tennessee Department of Health.
The funds will help the Foundation expand its outreach to support first responders — especially EMS personnel — through programs, education, awareness, and access to much-needed tools and training resources.
“This support from the State of Tennessee is a true gift,” said Foundation President Chester Goad. “We’re incredibly grateful to the state and also to House Speaker Cameron Sexton for his support. This grant means we can serve more first responders, provide better resources, and continue to honor the mission that began with Corban’s story — most notably through the compassion shown to our family through these amazing first responders during our own personal tragedy.”
The $100,000 grant will be used to support both current and new initiatives, including wellness endeavors, equipment or resources, and outreach events focused on mental health and resiliency in the field.
Serve Strong: Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation has supported community first responders in a variety of ways such as by providing scholarships for advancement or professional development, beds, mattresses and frames through their “Sleep Strong” program, and appliances, furniture, or other comfort items through the organization’s “Home Away from Home” program.
The Serve Strong: Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation was developed in memory of Corban Scott Goad, who was employed by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Today, Corban Goad’s spirit of commitment lives on through the organization’s growing interest in efforts to care for the people who serve and protect communities across the Upper Cumberland.
