TOLEDO — For the third time, Oakwood/Salt Fork’s Callie Richardson was able to make it to the IHSA Class 1A cross country meet.
Richardson finished 14th with a time of 18 minutes, 46.88 seconds to get the chance to once again race at Detweiler Park in Peoria for her last prep cross-country race.
“It’s a good feeling,” Richardson said. “I didn’t know for sure, because we have a tough sectionals, so I was nervous. But it was good to make it.”
While the senior made it, she wanted her teammates to join here, but they could not make it as a team, finishing 10th.
“We really were hoping so we knew we had to run our very best to make it,” Richardson said. “They will have a good chance even without me next year. Everyone is bummed, but next year, they will have it without me.”
Now with a week before the state meet, Richardson said she will try to finish her career strongly.
“I will probably take it easy and tapering to get ready for the last meet,” Richardson said. “I hope to get a PR. All-State might be a option, but I will run the best I can.”
