I warned you.
After 30 years of trying to pick pro football winners every weekend for four months, Pete Rozelle’s dream of having every team with a shot of winning any game on any weekend is now the norm.
Road teams and underdogs are open for business.
Proof is my record for Week 6: 8-5.
Forget about point spreads; that’s not a good record picking winners. But guess what:out of 319 entries, only four North Shore residents — not a misprint! — picked nine or more winners.
There is more guess work than ever. Not only are bad to mediocre teams beating playoff teams, but Super Bowl favorites (i.e. LA Rams) are losing to cellar-dwellars (Arizona) at home in an early must-win game.
There are more than a few teams that are tough to figure, like the Falcons, Cowboys, Browns, Lions and Bengals. Are they pretty good? Are they playoff teams? Are they disappointments, again?
In Week 7 there are seven games with point spreads of 3.5 or less, two more at 4.5 points. You could make a case for every underdog.
To put Week 6 to bed, all of 10 T-shirt winners were within four points of the first tie-breaker – the Pats point total (26). The second tiebreaker (amount of correct picks) was needed for the last two T-shirt winners.
