It’s a headline that you probably think is fake at first glance.
And yet, it’s entirely true.
The center of the CAL soccer universe has to reside in Newburyport, where both the boys and girls teams just simply refuse to give up one, singular goal.
It was the sixth straigth shutout for junior goalie Tyler Lisauskas and the Clipper boys, as they made the trip over to North Reading and earned the 3-0 clean sheet. The Clippers (8-0-2) have vaulted up to No. 19 in the latest Division 2 power rankings, as you’d have to go back to the first half of their game against Hamilton-Wenham on Sept. 17th to find the last time they conceded. So for Josh Sucheki, Max Coffin, Luc Wittner and the defense, that means their shutout streak has reached 600 consecutive minutes.
And in this latest victory over the Hornets, it was Shea Cook, Wesley Young (1a) and freshman star Mikey Savastra scoring the goals. Danny Lopez and Tim DeGraves also had assists for the Clippers, who will travel to Rockport on Tuesday before hosting Pentucket in the ALS Cup on Saturday.
Yet somehow, the shutout streak for the Newburyport girls is longer!
The Clippers played host to two games over the weekend, and blanked North Reading on Thursday, 2-0, before coming back and blasting St. Mary’s of Lynn on Saturday, 6-0. Which all marks the simply incredible 10th straight shutout for the Clippers (9-1-1), who are also moving up the Division 2 rankings after coming in at No. 21 in the latest update.
For a defense of Elise Kennedy, Emily Homer, Delaney Duncan, Lea Mosquera, Charlotte Smith, Quinn Forrest and Calleigh Ware, they haven’t allowed a goal since the final minute of the team’s season opener against Lynnfield. Then huge credit needs to go to both goalies, as junior starter Margaux Dupuis has shoulder the bulk of the minutes, but freshman Daniella Menery has come in during lopsided second halfs and done her part to keep this shutout streak alive.
And that consecutive minutes streak of not surrendering a goal: 800.
So added with the boys’ team: You get 1,400 straight minutes.
Absurd.
Against the Hornets, it was Audrey Roebuck and Ruby Reardon scoring in the first seven minutes of the game for the Clippers, while Ava Ranney had the assists on both of them. Then on Saturday, both Ranney and Reardon scored twice, while Camila Fuentes and Lea Neville had the final goals. Both Lucia Savastra and Kayleigh Bonavita assisted on a pair of those tallies, and Anna Julia Ferreira had a helper as well.
AMESBURY: Girls pick up another win
It was a tough 2025 season for the Amesbury girls.
While there were some positive moments and a couple of ties for that young, rebuilding team, they weren’t able to get into the win column last fall. But the hard work of that development showed up at the end of this September, when the Redhawks beat Rockport for their first win in exactly 700 days.
And now, they’ve done it again.
Amesbury took down another CAL opponent on Thursday afternoon, earning their first victory over Manchester Essex in quite some time with a 2-1 win. The duo of Lily Clark and Ellison Talbot scored the goals for the Redhawks (2-7-1), while Maddie Rodrigues and Gabbie Bonia had the assists.
With eight games left in the regular season, there’s still a chance for the Redhawks to get back to a .500 record and automatically qualify for the Division 4 playoffs.
PENTUCKET: Playoffs clinched for boys after sixth shutout in a row
The last playoff appearance being in 2021?
Not anymore for the Pentucket boys!
After a long four-year drought for the program, coach Ross Suleski and his Panthers will get to experience some postseason magic this fall. Their spot was automatically clinched on Thursday following a 1-0 win over Essex Tech, as the Panthers (8-1-2) can now only finish with a .500 record or better.
And, yeah, we’re looking at a LOT better, here.
The win also marked the incredible sixth straight shutout for Pentucket, which remains unbeaten across its last 10 games. Junior goalie Cam Sands, along with a defense of Will Cacciapuoti, Rowan Weinberg, Christian Perry, Brendan O’Connor and Sam Tangorra, are now just under 550 consecutive minutes since they’ve last conceded. Then against the Hawks, the lone goal of the game was scored by Senan Lucey off an assist from Jack LaCroix.
The Panthers are ranked at No. 24 in the latest Division 3 update.
GEORGETOWN: Both teams swept by Generals
The Georgetown girls are just ready to move on to next week.
This past seven-day stretch started with a one-goal loss to Ipswich, and unfortunately for the Royals, their luck didn’t turn for the better on Thursday afternoon following a 2-1 setback at Hamilton-Wenham. Olivia Willis scored the lone goal for the Royals (5-4-2) off a penalty kick, but they couldn’t find an equalizer over the closing minutes.
Big picture: The Royals — who next are at Pentucket on Tuesday — are still a lock playoff team in Division 4. But they did fall to No. 17 in the latest rankings update, so they’ll need to get back on track quickly if they want to move up a spot and host a first-round game.
Meanwhile, Zach Pinkham, Nathan Ogden and the Georgetown boys hosted Hamilton-Wenham for some “Friday Night Lights,” but ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 final. The Royals (2-8-0) have eight games left in the regular season to try and claw their way back to a .500 record to automatically qualify for the Division 4 playoffs.
TRITON: Boys continue to show character, improvement
It’s a stat that we’ve reported a handful of times this fall, so apologies for the repetitiveness.
However, it’s entirely worth repeating.
The Triton boys played another competitive match at Lynnfield on Thursday afternoon before eventually falling, 2-1. But, again, after only scoring eight total goals all of last season, returning seniors Noah Bernier, Brady Cirino, Caleb Murray, Patrick Jansen, Jack Atchinson, Greg Berger and the Vikings (1-9-1) have now found the back of the net 12 times this year.
With still seven games left.
Then in the girls’ game between these two programs, a one-loss Lynnfield team — that is ranked No. 15 in Division 3 — put its foot down for a 4-0 win over Triton. It wasn’t all bad for the Vikings (2-7-2), though, who received strong play from Maeve Johnson and Emilia Shkurti in the midfield, along with over 20 saves from goalie Addi Ewell.
